In the region of Kvarner, sits the small coastal town of Crikvenica. Old Crikvenica is on a nearby hilltop and called, Kotor. In the late 19th century, tourism to Crikvenica began. The first hotel in Crikvenica was built in 1894 and was considered a resort.

What to do in Crikvenica
One of the “must see” attractions in Crikvenica is the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It has been preserved and was built in 1412.
Another famous destination is the Olive Mill Tos. The olive mill is reminiscent of when olive groves were tended to by the people of Crikvenica and the surrounding lands.
Don’t miss the aquarium. Centrally located, the aquarium has both saltwater and freshwater fish.
Near the Crikvenica Town Beach, you can find the Zvonko Car Atelier. Zvonko Car created many fine pieces of art and studied under famous Croation sculptor, Ivan Meštrović.
If you enjoy biking, Crikvenica and the surrounding areas having many biking trails to take in the amazing views and scenery. You will also find an abundance of walking paths and hiking trails across the Riviera. One noteworthy place to visit is the Love Path. Here you can relax and enjoy the peaceful forest nature and see the different Mediterranean plants.
Shopping in Crikvenica
If you would like to partake in some retail therapy while in Crikvenica, you may want to visit the Duga Mall shopping center. Open in 2013, it is the largest shopping complex in the area with four floors and all types of stores. The biggest retailer in the mall is Konzum, a super center with groceries, shoes, clothing and more.
A variety of fresh fruits and vegetables is available at a green market in Crikvenica.

Beaches in Crikvenica
The first public beach in Crikvenica opened in 1888 marking the beginning of tourism to the town.
This beach in Crikvenica has a paid entrance and also serves as an amusement park for children and promenade. Many sports can be enjoyed here including volleyball, water skiing, parasailing and more. The beach also has many restaurants, playgrounds and souvenir shops.
Crni Molo is on a shallow bay making it perfect for those with children. It is also a famous place to play the game of picigin.
Balustrada Beach stretches from the center of Crikvenica to the public beach. You can rent beach gear here such as pedal boats, chairs, umbrellas and more. This beach also has a playground.
